The government of Lenoir City is based upon the Mayor-Alderman form of government. This form of government was established in 1907 when the City was re-incorporated into what is now known as the modern City of Lenoir City.
The City is governed by a seven member Board of Mayor and Aldermen, elected at-large and on a non-partisan basis for four-year staggered terms. The exception to this rule is that the Mayor is elected at-large for a two year term. Elections are held in April, the third Thursday of the month, during odd numbered years. The new Board of Mayor and Alderman is seated on the fourth Monday after the election of each election year.
The current Board of Mayor and Aldermen is comprised of the following individuals: Mayor Matt Brookshire, Vice Mayor Tony Aikens, Alderman Gene Hamby, Alderman Gene “Blackie” Johnson, Alderman, Mickey McNabb, Alderman Eddie Simpson, and Alderman Curtis Williams.
Our City Recorder-Treasurer-Court Clerk is also an elected official and has a four year term. The City Recorder-Treasurer-Court Clerk is Debbie Cook.
Our city administrator is appointed by the City Council. The City Administrator is W. Dale Hurst.
